Stanford Dolman Travel Book of the Year Shortlist

Launched in 2015, the Edward Stanford Travel Writing Awards (ESTWA) seek to celebrate the best travel writing, and travel writers, in the world.

Titles have been shortlisted for the Stanford Dolman Travel Book of the Year in association with the Authors’ Club for their innovative and/or literary merit with content which is relevant, useful or inspiring to travellers.

Great Trees of London Map

New Map Celebrates London’s Remarkable Trees

Great Trees of London Map  is a new map by Blue Crow Media. This two-sided guide map reveals highlights from London’s uniquely diverse urban forest. Featuring rare species, magnificent English oaks, an ancient, perhaps 2,000-year-old, yew and the finest flowering cherries, this selection of 50 trees spans from Kew Gardens to Greenwich Park, and Tottenham to Brixton. The map includes photography, an introduction and descriptions by Paul Wood, the author of London is a Forest and London’s Street Trees: A Field Guide to the Urban Forest.

World-Class Shortlist Announced for the Edward Stanford Travel Writing Awards 2020

Now in its fifth year, the prestigious Edward Stanford Travel Writing Awards (ESTWA) exists to champion the very best travel writing in the world. The nominations include both multi-award winning titles and debut authors with books that will both stimulate thought and inspire travel, while bringing lesser-known parts of the world sharply into focus.

The shortlist of 57 books, divided into ten awards categories, will take the reader on a fascinating, and sometimes challenging, voyage into our planet’s past and future, across the seven continents and into hidden corners and unexplored cultures.

Emily Ketteringham to paint mural at Stanfords Bristol to celebrate Robert Macfarlane’s ‘Underland’


We are excited to announce the commissioning of local artist Emily Ketteringham to paint a large scale mural on our store window at Stanfords Bristol to celebrate the launch of author Robert Macfarlane’s new book Underland.


Underland is the highly anticipated new book from the internationally bestselling, prizewinning author of Landmarks, The Lost Words and The Old Ways. The mural will be based on the cover of the book which is a piece of art by Stanley Donwood, who has previously worked with Glastonbury festival and designed Radiohead’s album cover art.
