NEW MAP: London Flipped

Urban Good launches London Flipped, the first ever full-size upside down map of London. This innovative map offers a unique perspective on the capital, challenging conventional viewpoints and inviting Londoners and visitors alike to explore the city in a whole new way.

A Fresh Take on London

London Flipped rotates the traditional map of London by 180°, placing south at the top and north at the bottom. This playful yet thought-provoking reorientation is designed to disrupt conventional navigation and encourage users to reimagine their spatial relationships with the city.

Cartographic tradition

Maps didn’t always have north at the top. At many times in history, and particularly across the Muslim world, people have oriented their surroundings with the sun rising in the east, Mecca or other points of importance at the top. Humans tend to view higher positions as superior: “London Flipped” challenges this bias, giving prominence to South London – now found above the Thames.

Design and Detail

Using OS data at a scale of 1 inch to 1 mile, the map features vibrant fluorescent orange parks and subtle golden rivers, making it both a functional navigational tool and a striking piece of art. The underground and overground rail networks are clearly marked, helping to situate the reader in this situationist landscape.
