Mappy Monday- Shakespeare’s Britain

The 23rd of this month marks 400 years since Shakespeare’s death in 1616. To celebrate the Bard’s life and work we thought we’d share this National Geographic Society map of Shakespeare’s Britain.

The map is based on John Speed’s “The Kingdome of Great Britaine and Ireland,” from his 1611 atlas “Theatre of the Empire of Great Britaine”. It highlights the locations of Shakespeare’s plays with British settings and includes a panoramic view of Shakespeare’s London with The Globe theatre in the foreground overlooking the Thames towards St. Paul’s and the Tower.

To bring us up to modern day, there is a small street plan of  Stratford-upon-Avon highlighting locations of sights related to Shakespeare.
