Love it, hate it or don’t even know what it is, Australia’s most Marmite-like national treasure had a whole day devoted to it yesterday. If you’ve never tasted Vegemite you may still know about it from the Men at Work song ‘Down Under’ which we are sure was sung a lot yesterday.

Hen party

Loneliness puts a lot of people off travelling alone but Guirec Soudée has come up with a perfect solution. The French explorer has brought along a ship mate to accompany him on his voyage around the world in the form of a pet hen called Monique.

Google Maps vs Apple Maps

Cartographer Justin O’Beirne has compared data from Google Maps and Apple Maps to try and establish whether all digital maps are consistent and if we are all seeing the same thing. His in-depth study has unveiled some striking differences. One example of differences lies in places of interest; Apple tends to focus on landmarks whereas Google highlights transit.

A helicopter made for one

If you have a spare 30,000,000 yen you could get your own personal single passenger helicopter. The solo driven machine was unveiled at the International Aerospace Exhibition in Nagoya, Japan. Running on an electric motor the Hirobo helicopter can reach speeds of 62mph and has the fast delivery of organs and medical equipment in mind.

Mermaid parade

What better way to welcome in summer than with a parade of mermaids? If you are near Coney Island, USA this Saturday you should definitely don a tail and join in the celebrations. This annual Mermaid Parade sees people and floats dressed up in under the sea apparel and among other activities, judges will crown 2016’s Queen Mermaid and King Neptune.
