Said to have been coined in the in the late 1950s from the French béton brut meaning ‘raw concrete’, the 1960s London skyline was heavily influenced by this movement with many civic building and housing estates being erected around the capital.

At our Long Acre store we are surrounded by some great Brutalist buildings. In just one lunch break we can do a quick tour of the architect Richard Seifert’s buildings. There is Centre Point, 90 Long Acre, One Kemble Street (aka the Space House) and St Martin’s Lane Hotel.

This map features some of London’s finest examples of Brutalism and includes details that will get you started if you want to go exploring on your very own themed tour.
