Our intern Molly Loeffler shares her favourite things to do in the bustling area surrounding our flagship store in Covent Garden.

From shopping to eating to enjoying a show, our local neighborhood of Covent Garden is a vibrant area with so much to do.

The Markets

One of the main draws to Covent Garden is the markets. Surrounding the main piazza, the markets are open everyday and sell just about anything you would ever need! The Apple Market is about 40 stalls in the famous Inigo Jones designed market and is open everyday specialising in antiques on Mondays and arts and crafts from Tuesday to Sunday. The East Colonnade Market is on the eastern part of the main piazza and sells a variety of things from hand-made soap, confectionery, and even has a magician’s stall. The third main market of Covent Garden is the Jubilee Market. During weekdays, the market is open from 9:30-6:00pm. On Mondays the market specializes in antiques, and Tuesday-Friday it is a general market selling everything from household goods to handmade clothing. During the weekends the market is open from 9-6pm and specializes in arts and crafts.

Food and Drink

After some serious shopping at the markets, you are probably going to work up an appetite and Covent Garden is full of fantastic restaurants for any budget! Opened in 1798, London’s oldest eatery is Rules, specialists in fine British cuisine. While it is at the upper end of the price range, they do bring in all of their own game from their privately owned land in High Pennines. If you would like to venture away from British cuisine, try Moti Mahai or tapas at the Opera Tavern. If you are just looking for some good pub food, stop at Cross Keys or Lamb and Flag. Cross Keys is a cosy old-fashion pub and Lamb and Flag is tucked away from the tourist rush of Covent Garden. For a quick treat, try the gelateria Scoop for some of the best ice cream in London.

Entertainment

royal opera house

Covent Garden is well known for its entertainment and is the home to the Royal Opera House and many other theatres such as the Adelphi and Aldwych Theatres. If you don’t feel up for a show, visit the London Transport Museum or the Somerset House. The World Photography Awards Exhibition is beginning on 26 April – 12 May 2013 and is featuring photography from professionals and amateurs in a variety of fields. There is also a great deal of free entertainment in Covent Garden, and it doesn’t take much to find it! Street performers entertain the crowds around the piazza everyday except Christmas Day.

And of course,we’d like to think no visit to Covent Garden is complete without a visit to our flagship store on Long Acre!
