Today is World Ballet Day so we thought this was a good time to be neighbourly.

If you walk down the road from the Floral Street entrance at our London store you will see a concertina style glass structure above your head. The Bridge of Aspiration connects The Royal Ballet School to the Royal Opera House. Built in 2003 the bridge is by the architects Wilkinson Eyre who are responsible for Gatwick’s Pier 6 Connector Bridge, The Mary Rose Museum in Portsmouth among others.

The Bridge of Aspiration is constructed using 23 equal sized squares at slight degrees of rotation. The idea behind the design was to mirror the fluidity and grace of dance and although the bridge itself is static it has a wave-like quality that makes it stand out.
If you love London buildings, this colouring book contains 45 line illustrations of iconic London buildings including the Bridge of Aspiration:
