Stanfords Award for Printed Mapping

We are delighted to have sponsored an award at the recent British Cartographic Awards 2014.

The Stanfords Award for printed mapping was created to encourage any printed products to enter, from coffee table atlases to maps featured in leaflets or topical articles.

Below are all the entries that received a Stanfords recognition:

Winner: Historical Map of York: Lovell Johns

Judges Comments: my favourite map, exceptionally well produced and designed, colours are clear, visual hierarchy is of a very high standard, a contemporary map style for an old map but I don’t mind that, a beautiful piece of design and cartography. Front cover design is great.

Commended: New York City Map with cycle Routes: The Future Mapping Company: Jo Clarke and Marcus Kirby

Judges Comments: innovative wallmap, most impressive when framed, worthy of being regarded as “art”, well composed, very detailed and informative, has a wow factor.

Highly Commended: Glen Coe Superwalker: Harvey Maps

Judges Comments: highly practical map that would be an excellent guide in a notoriously difficult area. I like the GPS compatibility, clarity of information and ease of use. Lots of valuable information and it looks good too. Excellent material and quality.

Highly Commended: Vatican City by Gizimaps

Judges Comments: an excellent map with essential clear information that would be of great assistance to the visitor. Clean lines and right scale. Well balanced bright colours, impressed that the author spent time at the Vatican in order to get a true feel of the location.

Highly Commended: Visitors Map of the Charnwood Forest Regional Park: Global Mapping

Judges Comments: clarity is excellent and detail first class, good colours, nice use of OS OpenData, well designed, very good tourist or local reference map.
